  • Masters Student Carrie Gorman
  • Carrie is from Downers Grove, IL. As an undergraduate at Purdue University, she majored in chemistry and minored in Spanish. Her undergraduate research assisted with the characterization of aerosols released from the installation of cured-in-place-pipes. After graduation in 2023, worked as an analytical chemist at an applied water quality and environmental science laboratory in northern Michigan. She came to UIC to pursue her interest in environmental science in the master’s program. At UIC she studies how edible wild plants in Chicago accumulate heavy metals from soil and the atmosphere. She is looking forward to spending lots of time in the lab this fall working with the ICP-OES to analyze plant samples. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, watching movies, talking about her cats, and exploring the city.

Undergraduate Researcher Jocelyn Wagner
Hi, I’m Jocelyn, an undergraduate researcher in the Matzen Environmental Geochemistry Lab at UIC. My current research goal is to quantify the levels of lead contamination in backyard soils from multiple Chicago neighborhoods
. When I’m not rounding up soil samples, I can be found hoping that the Sox will win more games, running, reading, and perusing local businesses around the city.
